The clever coffee dripper technology makes it simple and easy to brew a great cup of coffee on the go with minimal mess& fuss.

But where the Handy Brew really shines is in it capacity to brew tea – loose leaf, herbal, fruit teas or even tea bags – in an efficient and very effective way. The secret is in the patented one-way valve in the base. After placing the tea in the unit and adding hot water, you can easily control the steeping time by activating the gravity feed system. Simply place the Handy Brew on your cup and watch while it delivers perfect tea. Stop it at any point by removing it from the cup and placing it on the accompanying coaster. The Handy Brew works equally well with all kinds of teas including herbal and fruit teas.

It’s a great invention — made from 100% BPA free, high grade tritan plastic. This durable and flexible unit, also features a removable and replaceable filter that is easy to clean and lightweight.

2012 Season’s harvest of Oriental Beauty tea has recently finished in Taiwan and the annual competition for the award winning teas is now underway. First, second & third placed teas will be sold for very high prices & most of Taiwan’s award winning teas are usually pre-ordered & already sold. Once the competitions are over, later this month, this unique specialty tea will be readily available for ordering. As with most Chinese & Taiwanese teas, there will be various qualities & prices available. Originally a premium grade oriental Beauty (aka Eastern Beauty, Dong Feng Mei Ren plus many other names) had 5 distinct colors - red, white, yellow, green and brown. Tea leaves which contain a high concentration of white buds are also generally an indication of a good quality Oriental Beauty tea. As one of Oriental Beauty’s peculiarities is it leaves being bitten by a green insect which is accounts for some of its unique characteristics & initiates the oxidation process, the leaf appearance will also show this. For more details and information on this awesome tea see this article on T Ching. Download this pdf also for further insights into this tea, along with brewing details & storing information.

A lot has been said about GABA tea and the many benefits it has. It certainly is an amazing tea and due credit goes to the Japanese for “discovering” it. It was a person named Dr. Tsushida who “stumbled” on the process for making GABA tea during some unrelated research. He was a part of a Japanese research team involved in these studies more than 20 years ago by Japanese scientists. They surprisingly noticed that tea leaves exposed to nitrogen yields a huge increase the GABA levels of the tea. The Japanese, already realizing the benefits of GABA supplements, immediately caught onto this amazing discovery and since this time GABA Tea has become an integral part of the Japanese diet.

The processing of the tea is done naturally without any chemicals added. The initial tea plant is, in most cases, grown organically. The fresh tea is put into large vacuumed drums. The oxygen is pumped out and nitrogen is put in its place. Exposing the tea leaves to the nitrogen in this way is what increases the GABA in the leaves. This process takes about 8 hours at a temperature of 40-45 degrees Celsius.

The many health benefits of GABA have been elaborated on in other articles and I will not discuss this in detail here. Suffice to say is that drinking GABA tea can be very beneficial – especially for those prone to high blood pressure, stress and anxiety, lack of sleep, even weight loss and a general sense of well being. GABA supplements are being sold everywhere form pharmaceutical tablets to soft drinks and more. It is a known fact that a GABA deficiency can cause an imbalance in many of these areas.

GABA tea is being grown primarily in Taiwan and China and marketed worldwide – especially to Japan. The mid level, elevation tea growing region in Nantou County, Central Taiwan makes for an idea tea growing area. The Taiwan tea growing community in this region has developed the equipment for processing GABA tea easily and efficiently.

The global market consumption of GABA tea is very small compared to other Asian teas, such as green tea and oolong tea, which is surprising as it not expensive and an enjoyable tea to drink. GABA tea is relatively unknown in the Western world, although GABA supplements in other forms are now quite popular. As someone said – it is surprising that it is not more popular than green tea as it has more health properties and tastes better.

The loose leaf tea – although technically a rolled oolong tea – similar Dong Ding, half ball style – is considerably darker and the balls a little smaller in size.

When the tea is steeped the leaves unfurl and expand similar to regular oolong tea. The color of the liquor is a rich golden amber color. The tea has full bodied, fruity, honey aroma.

Order our high grade organic GABA oolong tea here.

Borosilicate glass is the formal name for a high grade, heat resistant glass. This glass was originally designed for use in laboratories & for scientific equipment & it is still used extensively in these fields. It is more suited than most other glass materials for this kind of equipment as it is more durable and can withstand higher temperatures and more extreme conditions.

Compared to conventional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate glass is more costly to produce but because of its enhanced features including strength and durability it has a much wider range of functionality. With greater demand and popularity, borosilicate glass has been further developed to meet requirements that conventional glass cannot meet.

Borosilicate glass consists of boron oxide and soda. Boron oxide plays an important role to hold the soda and lime together. Borosilicate glass yields better performance on the index factor – also known as the coefficient of expansion – meaning that more extreme temperatures can be tolerated. The different quality of borosilicate glass is usually gauged by the swell factor. Market indexes of glass swell factor range from 32-50. Low index figures can stand temperature up to 500 degrees centigrade. For the physical properties of borosilicate glass to be optimum, the best thickness is between 2mm – 2.5 mm, which is thinner than conventional glass, yet it performs even better in regards to its resilience to temperature fluctuations and scratching.

Borosilicate glass can be produced by two methods. The more costly method is by using a 1,600 degrees furnace, which is also used for thicker and embossed glass. The lower cost method employs a 1,000 degrees furnace to reshape and form the tubular glass. By using the more costly method, it ensures the glass is more durable. It also ensures that the glass will remain crystal clear, in contrast to some conventional glassware that tends to become tainted or cloudy over time.
